What does the book Coraline by Neil Gaiman symbolize?

I see it as saying be grateful for what you've got, the grass isn't always greener on the other side and that if something seems too good to be true, then it probably is. To me, be careful what you wish for says that once you have what you want, then you no longer have anything to aim for so I personally wouldn't apply this to Coraline.
