How much pain will I be in after an operation for a Chiari Malformation?

Well, im 15 and i was told today i should consider getting surgery. i just want to know how much pain i would be in and what i would have to be careful of doing after surgery. i've seen some people having to be put in ICU for a night and that terrifies me and so does the whole surgery thing but i need it :(
