Question about the Qin dynasty?

yesterday there was a show on about shi huangdi so they started talking about how he wanted to stay alive for ever. so finally someone told him about some islands on the coast of china and that he send thousands of kids there and they never came back. could you tell me about that? cuz ive never herd of that.
