Homemade red wine? Where did we go wrong?

We purchased a kit that said it the red wine) would be ready for consumption in one week. After careful checking mixing and temp control, we seem to have something that is cloudy, slightly vinegar smelling and a slight taste of raisin taste...what did we do wrong? It was distilled in a locked plastic container with a water filled air tube.
